Living Community

“29 Acres is the best thing that ever happened to me. I can actually be myself, I can finally take off that mask and be secure.”

Overview

The 29 Acres Independent  Living Community  is a place where individuals with autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities can thrive in a home that they call their own. We provide 'community' where residents can learn, grow and connect with one another.

Each home is thoughtfully designed to meet the sensory and practical needs of individuals with autism and other forms of neurodevelopmental disabilities, with a strong focus on accessibility, comfort, and stability.

Residents choose their provider as a consumer directed property. When residents choose 29 Acres as their provider, they will be offered a suite of support services meeting them where they are and designed specifically for them. These services can range from “drop-in” support for those with lower support needs to 24/7 support for those requiring more support.

The appropriate level of care is thoughtfully determined at move-in through a comprehensive evaluation conducted by our clinical team in collaboration with the resident and their circle of support. This process ensures each individual begins their journey with the right level of support in place from day one.

Support is rooted in evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, using individualized strategies that promote skill development in areas such as daily routines, social interaction, and self-management. The overall goal is to empower residents to build independence, increase confidence, have community and to be happy.

Common Questions

How do you know if my loved one is a good fit for the community?

At 29 Acres, we take a thoughtful and individualized approach to ensure each resident is well matched with both the home and community. This includes a comprehensive assessment (including a home visit and trial visit at 29 Acres) , collaboration with families and the support team, and careful consideration of compatibility with housemates. We also ensure our environment and services can effectively meet each resident’s unique needs to support long-term success.

How will you help my loved one become more independent?

Independence is at the core of our mission. We support residents through individualized skill-building, structured routines, and meaningful community involvement. Using evidence-based strategies, we focus on developing daily living skills, encouraging choice and self-advocacy, and building confidence so residents can live as independently as possible.

What does a typical day look like at 29 Acres?

Each day is structured yet tailored to the individual. Mornings may include personal care, breakfast, and preparing for the day. Residents then participate in activities such as life-skills training/classes, volunteering, they may have jobs, recreational programs, or community outings. Afternoons and evenings include time for hobbies, being with friends, household routines, and relaxing. Our goal is to create a balanced day that promotes independence, engagement, and overall well-being.

What is the cost of services?

Fees for support services are separate from the rent and community fees and are dependent on the level of services needed. This can be discussed during the interview process.
