Where will my autistic adult child live? For many families, this is an important question when planning for the future.
For Debra Caudy, M.D., founder of 29 Acres, this question became personal as she navigated the limited housing and program options available for her son, Jon. Her experience inspired her to help create 29 Acres, a community dedicated to providing adults with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities to build independence, develop meaningful relationships, and live fulfilling lives.
In a recent episode of the Autism Labs podcast, Debra shares the story behind 29 Acres and discusses the importance of creating inclusive communities that support adults across the autism spectrum, including those with significant support needs. She also discusses how 29 Acres approaches staff training, individualized support, resident choice, and everyday independent living skills.
At 29 Acres, we are proud to see Debra continue sharing her story and advocating for individuals and families navigating the future of autism services and residential support.
